I am an artist selling oil paintings at my gallery. My subject has been landscapes of Lake County, Illinois. I am very interested in light and how it affects the surrounding countryside at sunset. In many of my oils I try and capture the feel and mood of the setting sun. At this time of day there is a rich asortment of colors that can be captured to bring the viewer into the scene.

Interior Design
As an artist and architectural designer working with professional interior designers is sensible and an enriching aspect of my work. It gives me pleasure to work with designers to provide them with works of art that integrate well into their design plans.

EDUCATION:
As an educator it is an honor to work with the finest young people of today. I have provided curricula and instruction to the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), one of the most innovative and farsighted school systems in the country. Under the guidance of Mayor Richard M. Daley the Chicago Public Schools have become a model for education of young people across the country. Not only is CPS a leader in the implementation of education, it is also a leader in teacher development programs and technology.
I have made it my life's aim to work with the students to help give them tools to work with in making their dreams come true. In addition to providing them with the skills they need to make a living I would like to instill in their minds a vision of a better tomorrow and a goal of peace and understanding for all people everywhere. I believe that Art is the road to that vision.
PHYSICAL FITNESS AND EDUCATION:
Our body is our temple, I am often quoted as saying "This (my body) is my Rolls-Royce". How true are these words! No matter what we have and were we are if you do not have good health you are poor indeed.
THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
It is my conviction that the City of Chicago is the finest city in the United States of America and one of the finest cities in the world. Not only are we blessed to live and work in such a wonderful city the real beauty of The City of Chicago lies in its people and government. TouringDowntown Chicago along Lake Shore Drive is one of the most spectacular vistas anywhere with much to see and do as in the county's only dawn til dusk cultural event Looptopia. We are proud of such Chicago landmarks as: The Chicago Water Tower on North Michigan Avenue (Magnificent Mile), Chicago Waterfront, Sears Tower (Willis Tower), John Hancock Center, The Wrigley Building, The Tribune Tower, Art Institute of Chicago Lions, Cloud Gate (The Bean), Crown Fountain, Jay Pritzker Pavilion, and clocks of Marshall Field's (Macy's) on The Loop, State Street, The Drake Hotel, The Palmer House, The Four Seasons Chicago, and The Ritz-Carlton Chicago. Few other city can boast of such splendors as we in Chicago can.
We are blessed with the Art Institute of Chicago and their wonderful new Modern Wing, The Field Museum, The John G. Shedd Aquarium, The Adler Planetarium, The Chicago History Museum, The Museum of Science and Industry, The Chicago Botanic Gardens, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, The University of Chicago, Northwestern University, The Univerity of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Lyric Opera of Chicago. In sports could I forget The Chicago Bears, The Chicago White Sox, The Chicago Bulls, Chicago Black Hawks, and The Chicago Cubs? The list could go on but space will not permit. What has made these would class institutions is the vision of the men and women of Chicago that stood before us. In their hearts and minds they had a vision of what could be done and took to the task. Today we are the heirs of their great vision and it is our responsibility to carry this vision forward.
With the support and vision of such outstanding organizations such at: The Chicago Community Trust, The Chicago Public Educatin Fund, The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and Chicago Tribune Foundation Chicago is able to meet the needs of its citizens and become a leading city of the 21st century.
ART, PHILOSOPHY, AND HISTORY:
As an artist I can express best my thoughts in terms of my work, which is drawing, and painting. I have always had a predilection for drawing even as a small child. To my great joy my father owned an art supply company called Favor Ruhl & Watson. I was fortunate to have all the tools that a young artist needed to work with. Further I was sent to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art for training while in elementary school. Fine Art has always been a part of my life and will always be.
Coupled with Art is my love of reading. My greatest interests in reading are Philosophy and History. I have been so committed to Philosophy that I have taught myself German (I have never stepped into a German language classroom) so that I could read Nietzsche, Kant, and Albert Schweitzer in German! I believe that Philosophy is a wonder for the mind and makes us richer as individuals. However, my personal convictions lay with David Hume and Bertrand Russell whom I up hold above all other Philosophers. If you read and study their works you will experience the freedom of mind and peace that is to be had by seeking a life of wisdom and inquiry. Reason and questioning are the keys to this peace and freedom. Never accept the opinions of others, their institutions, or their creeds. Rather, search out the truth and support your claims with facts! Let the herd clamor and rail against you all they like but they will not prevail against you because you stand on reason supported by facts whereas they are weak armed with empty bags of wind bolstered by opinions and conceit, straw houses erected on quick sand. They hurl empty and hollow judgments against you because they are ignorant, weak, and feeble. So as the fools that they are, they shore up their sand castles with more straw against the up and coming tidal waves of pure reason and inquiry unprepared for the inevitable and impending doom awaiting them.
"When we run over libraries, persuaded of these principles, what havoc must we make? If we take in our hand any volume; of divinity or school metaphysics, for instance; let us ask, Does it contain any abstract reasoning concerning quantity or number? No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning concerning matter of fact and existence? No. Commit it then to the flames: for it can contain nothing but sophistry and illusion." - David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding.
Philosophy is a tool for all humanity to be utilized to help make us richer as individuals, to free us to move forward towards the greater life with which our propensities call. ~ Stephen F. Condren
History is the key to understanding who we are and where we come from because it provides us with perspective. What could be more pivotal in human assessment? This great tool gives us the background that we need to get a closer look at who we are and where we came from. I pause in wonder at Ancient Egypt and marvel at all the wonders that they have left behind for the world to see. In the recent past we Chicagoans had the World Columbian Exhibition of 1893, located in Hyde Park, The Century of Progress, and the tragic Leopold and Loeb murder of 1924 where the famous defense attorney Clarence Darrow took the case for the two young men. And never to be forgotten Chicago's most famous first son Al Capone (scar face). We are the heirs of many great treasures and have to much to learn and to teach.
Juxtaposed to this glorious history is our vibrant and living present manifest in such notibles as President Barack Obama, Mayor Richard M. Daley, William M. Daley, Rod Blagojevitch, Pat Quinn, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Lester Crown, and Patrick G. Ryan: Chairman & CEO of the Chicago 2016 Olympic Bid Committee.
INTERNATIONAL PEACE AND WELL-BEING:
As a member of the President's Circle at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs peace and understanding between nations is of great importance for me. This is stemmed for my deep rooted need for peace and understanding between people. Further, I have learned from my father as a boy what it is to know and work with people that are different from you. With that knowledge I have sought all my life to seek out other people from other walks of life and countries and build a bridge of peace and understanding.
ARCHITECTURAL RENDERINGS AND TECHNICAL ILLUSTRATIONS:
As a student at Naperville Central High School I took a course in my Junior years in Mr. Pierce's Drafting class. I found that being an artist I took to the curriculum quickly and easily. Many students had difficulty in seeing the views of what where to be drawn, whereas as an artist it all came naturally to me.
Since that time I have successfully worked with architects and contractors on design projects, providing them with needed working drawings and technical illustrations. Now with the advent of the computer age the field of architectural drafting has taken a radical turn. Now we draw and design on the computer using AutoCAD and other similar software.
Favorite places:
In my many travels all over the world I would like to mention just a few of my favorite places. At the top of the list is Palm Beach, Florida, and the Breakers.
